Barcelona v Atletico Madrid - Preview

Barcelona v Atletico Madrid - Preview

This afternoon, at the Camp Nou, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will go head-to-head in a fascinating La Liga encounter.

The fixtures sees the top two teams in La Liga engage each other in a game that could determine the outcome of the title this season.

Although Barcelona have gone unbeaten all season, in twenty-six games, they haven`t shaken off the challenge Atletico Madrid present.

Atletico Madrid have lost just the solitary game this season, away to Espanyol, remaining just five points behind their title rivals.

A win for Barcelona in this fixture would stretch the lead at the top to eight points, a comfortable margin you feel.

However, if Atletico Madrid can inflict a first defeat on Barcelona this season, that lead will be cut to just two points.

With so much at stake, Ernesto Valverde has done his best to play down the importance of the fixture remarking at his press conference,

'It's not a final for La Liga.

'It will be an important three points to the winners, but not decisive. We are two strong teams and the three points are worth a lot.'

Maybe not, but a win for Barcelona this afternoon would give us that vital breathing space a hectic fixture programme sometimes needs.
