Las Palmas 1 Barcelona 1
Barcelona`s trip to the Canaries, to take on Las Palmas, wasn`t as productive as we`d hoped.
Looking to extend the gap at the top to seven-points, Barcelona had to be content with a share of the spoils against a Las Palmas team who rose to the challenge presented.
The win extends Barcelona`s unbeaten run, in La Liga, to a record thirty-three games whilst also extending the gap at the top between themselves and Atletico Madrid to five points.
With Atletico Madrid set to visit the Camp Nou this weekend, the result of that game could have ramifications with regards to the destiny of the title.
Against Las Palmas, Barcelona got off to a good start when they took the lead midway through the first-half.
The goal came from the boot of Lionel Messi who excellently despatched a free-kick into the far corner of the net.
But Las Palmas were determined to fight back and were awarded a penalty, although the reason why it was given was a little debatable, with the consensus of opinion being that it was awarded for a foul by Sergi Roberto on Matias Aguirregaray, although there was also a hint of handball from Lucas Digne.
However, Las Palmas were not to waste the opportunity to draw level and Jonathan Calleri stepped up to send his spot-kick into the top corner of the net leaving ter Stegen with no chance of making a save.
The spoils of war were shared as we look forward to the clash between the top-two sides in La Liga this weekend.
