Barcelona 6 Girona 1

Barcelona 6 Girona 1

An emphatic win, at the weekend, against Girona ensured that Barcelona kept their momentum at the top of La Liga going.

However, Barcelona didn`t have matters al their own way in this fixture with Girona taking a shock lead, after just three minutes, when Portu scored.

But, before the dust had settled on the shock opener to the game, Barcelona were soon level when Lionel Messi provided the perfect assist for Luis Suarez to score.

Messi then took centre-stage, scoring a delightful goal, to give Barcelona a 2-1 lead when he skipped past three defenders to score.

With Barcelona in the ascendency, it was soon 3-1 when Mess, from a free-kick, rightly assumed the defensive wall would jump and then rolled the ball beneath the wall to bamboozle the Girona defence.

The goals continued to flow with Philippe Coutinho providing an assist for Suarez to grab his second goal of the game to make it 4-1 before the former Liverpool midfielder scored his first Barcelona goal to make it 5-1.

The rout was wrapped up when Ousmane Dembele provided a cross for Suarez to tap home to get his hat-trick whilst making the score-line a very one-sided 6-1.

The emphatic win also saw Barcelona make it a club-record of 32 La Liga games unbeaten spread across the last two seasons.
