Real Sociedad v Barcelona Preview

Real Sociedad v Barcelona Preview

This evening Barcelona are in the Basque region of Spain taking on Real Sociedad in a La Liga fixture.

Barcelona will be hoping to extend both their lead at the top of the table and also their 28-match unbeaten run.

However, Barcelona`s recent record at the Anoeta Stadium, against Real Sociedad is poor.

The last seven trips to the stadium, in La Liga, have yielded just 2 points from a possible 21.

It is a cause for concern for Ernesto Valverde as his side go up against a side managed by somebody who has close ties to Barcelona, Eusebio Sacristan.

Sacristan spent sixteen years on the playing and coaching staff at the Camp Nou and Valverde fears he will use his insider knowledge of the club to pull off a chock, with the boss remarking at his pre-match press conference,

'We've not talked too much about Barca's record at Anoeta. But Eusebio knows this club from his time here and that means he also knows how to hurt us.

'It's a challenge for us. Everyone finds it tough there. Sometimes there are grounds where you find it harder to win than others, but that Barca's record is the past. We need to write the future.'

Indeed, we do, a win tonight, after Real Madrid`s shock 1-0 loss at home to Villarreal, could increase the gap between the two giants of Spanish football to an incredible 19 points, surely a gap that would end Real`s hopes of retaining their title.

Continuing, at his pre-match press conference, Valverde also spoke about the fixture congestion Barcelona are experiencing, could help Real Sociedad plot our downfall, with Valverde adding,

'It is an advantage for Real not to have had any cup game this week while we've played on Thursday, as will be the case next weekend against Betis."

But, as we enter the game, the aforementioned Eusebio finds his place at the club under increasing pressure. Last season Real Sociedad finished a healthy sixth in La Liga but, this season, they are in danger of being sucked into the relegation battle after an alarming drop in form.

Last time out Real Sociedad lost to Leganes, their fifth loss in their last seven games, surely making Barcelona the favourites for this clash.

As for the two teams, Barcelona will not be able to call upon the services of their new signings, Coutinho and Mina whilst Real Sociedad will be able to call upon the services of Imanol Agirretxe who has recovered from being side-lined through injury.

Here at Vital Barcelona we`re going for a 2-0 win to the league leaders, how about you?
