Real Madrid 0 Barcelona 3
Was that not the perfect performance on enemy territory by Barcelona?
Ernesto Valverde took his side to the Bernabeu and came away not only with the three points on offer but an emphatic 3-0 victory.
The result sees Barcelona stretch their lead over their rivals to a massive fourteen points with Real Madrid trailing way back in fourth place in the La Liga table.
After weathering something of a first-half storm, whereby Real Madrid saw Karim Benzema hit the post and Cristiano Ronaldo miss two good chances, Barcelona upped the ante in the second-half.
The opening goal of the game came in the fifty-fourth minute when Luis Suarez netted. Reeling from going a goal behind, Real Madrid went 2-0 down ten minutes later when a spell of Barcelona pressure saw Carvajal concede a penalty with a despairing dive to handle the goal-bound ball. Lionel Messi stepped up and made no mistake from the penalty spot.
Down to ten-men after the sending off of Carvajal, Real Madrid made some attacking changes, including bringing on Gareth Bale, but it was to be Barcelona that had the last word when Aleix Vidal scored a third, with his shot just squeezing over the line.
A great display and a great result.
