Barcelona 4 Deportivo La Coruna 0

Barcelona 4 Deportivo La Coruna 0

Barcelona cruised to comfortable victory at the Camp Nou, against Deportivo La Coruna, on Sunday evening.

With the big-game against Real Madrid lurking on the horizon, Ernesto Valverde had warned his side against the dangers of complacency against a side struggling at the wrong end of La Liga.

It appears the side heeded those warnings as although Barcelona won by four clear goals the margin of victory could have been a lot higher.

Barcelona opened up a 2-0 lead in the first-half through goals from Luis Suarez and Paulinho in the 29th and 41st minutes respectively.

Any thoughts Deportivo harboured about getting into the match were ended two minutes into the second half when Luis Suarez netted his second of the game.

Paulinho also scored a brace making it 4-0 in the 75th minute.

But the margin of victory could have been much bigger with Lionel Messi being the victim of misfortune.

Twice the Argentine saw efforts hit the post and when he was given a chance to score from the spot, after Suarez had been fouled inside the penalty area, he saw his spot-kick saved by Martinez in the Deportivo goal.

The win extends the gap between Barcelona and Real Madrid to eleven points and with the two sides meeting next Saturday, Barcelona surely have the chance to end Real Madrid`s hopes of retaining the La Liga title they won last May.
