A solid display, away to Villarreal, ensured that Barcelona maintained their unbeaten start to the season whilst also opening up a five-point lead at the top of the table.

But it wasn`t always plain sailing for Barcelona in this fixture.

With an hour of the game gone, Villarreal were doing an excellent job of frustrating Barcelona and whenever Barcelona managed to outwit their stoic defence the woodwork came to their rescue with both Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique denied.

However, the game was to turn in the sixtieth minute when the Villarreal midfielder, Daniel Rabsa, was sent off. Rabsa received his red-card for a bad challenge on Sergio Busquets.

Reduced to ten-men, Villarreal finally conceded a goal in the seventy-second minute when Luis Suarez rounded the keeper to put Barcelona on the way to victory.

The three points were wrapped up when Lionel Messi scored a second late-on.

The win ends a run of two consecutive La Liga games whereby Barcelona had drawn whilst also keeping the lead at the top of the table to five points with Real Madrid, probably Barcelona`s main rivals for the title, a further three points adrift.
