Barcelona 5 Real Merica 0 (aggregate 8-0)

Whilst all around them in Spain struggled to ease into the last sixteen of the Copa del Rey, there were no such problems for Barcelona.

On a night whereby two La Liga sides, Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad, crashed out ta the hands of clubs from lower leagues, namely Lleida and Formentera respectively, Barcelona eased into the next round courtesy of a 5-0 win at the Nou Camp and 8-0 on aggregate.

Ernesto Valverde chose to rest several of his key players, namely Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Andres Iniesta, but the squad chosen was still too good for the gallant Real Mercia,

Barcelona opened the scoring in the sixteenth minute when Paco Alcacer scored, but Real Mercia held firm until half-time.

The second half though saw Barcelona`s superior skill and fitness pay dividends.

Gerard Pique doubled the lead in the 56th minute and four minutes later Aleix Vidal made it 3-0.

With our visitors struggling, Denis Suarez made it 4-0 in the seventy-fourth minute and Jose Arnaiz, on as a substitute, wrapped the scoring up to make it 5-0 on the night and 8-0 on aggregate.
