Juventus 0 Barcelona 0 (CL)

Juventus 0 Barcelona 0 (CL)

Barcelona arrived in Turin knowing that a draw would, with one game still to play, be sufficient for the club to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

In a game that was, at times, dour, Barcelona did just that, with both sides unable to break the deadlock.

However, the 0-0 draw means that for the second successive fixture Barcelona had failed to score with the previous fixture, against Olympiakos, ending a run of five years whereby Barcelona had scored in every group match.

The release of the team-sheet showed that Ernesto Valverde had only named Lionel Messi as a substitute, resting the Argentine striker ahead of the crunch La Liga game against Valencia this weekend.

Barcelona dominated possession for large parts of the game and almost took the lead in the first-half when a long-range free-kick from Ivan Rakitic struck the post.

In the second half another glorious chance to snatch a victory was wasted when Digne, pushing up from the back, chose to pass to Luis Suarez when, in fact, he was in a better position to score.

Juventus mainly relied on Dybala to net a victory and the Argentine striker had four attempts but couldn`t break the deadlock.

Messi, having sat on the bench for almost an hour, came on as a substitute and saw a free-kick land on the roof of Gianluigi Buffon`s net.

The 0-0 draw ensures Barcelona finish top of Group D having a better head-to-head record against Juventus and also keeps the unbeaten run going for the season.
