Barcelona Were Interested in Mahrez

Barcelona Were Interested in Mahrez

Back in the hazy days of last summer, when the transfer window was still open, speculation linked Barcelona with a plethora of players.

With a huge sum of money banked for the sale of Neymar Jnr, every Tom, Dick and Harry was linked with a move to the Camp Nou.

Some of the speculation was spot on whilst other bits were, how you might say, very speculative.
One player linked with a move to the Camp Nou was the Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez and, according to the news source the Daily Mirror, it appears Barcelona`s interest was genuine.

Our referenced source carries some quotes from the Roma Director of Football, Monchi, who has spilled the beans about his own clubs interest and ours in the player, by remarking,

'We wanted a left-footed winger to replace Mohamed Salah and put it all on Mahrez, but the only reason he didn`t come was because the club wouldn`t sell.

'It`s not an excuse, they said no to Barcelona too.'

It seems that Leicester City said no to advances from both Barcelona and Roma because neither club would pay Leicester`s asking price of £50 million.

It seems that although Barcelona had that large sum for Neymar Jnr banked, they were not going to splash the cash willy-nilly!
