Independence Will NOT Force Barcelona Out of La Liga

Independence Will NOT Force Barcelona Out of La Liga

They say politics and sport shouldn`t mix.

However, recent events, whereby Catalonia is looking to seek independence from Spain have had ramifications for Barcelona.

Unrest on the streets saw the home La Liga fixture, against Las Palmas, played behind closed doors.

There has also been the suggestion that if Catalonia were to become independent that Barcelona might not be allowed to participate in La Liga.

There was also the suggestion being bandied about that Barcelona could end up participating in the English Premier League (EPL).

However, it appears that whatever the outcome of the political tussle is, Barcelona will remain in La Liga.

According to the popular news source, the ESPN, the Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, when discussing the issue, has remarked,

'You can be sure that this board will always act in the club's defence.

'We will never put the club nor its presence in any competition at risk.

'That's why, to all the club's members, I say that we want to continue playing in La Liga and, as of today, our participation is guaranteed. It's mutually beneficial for La Liga and Barcelona for that link to continue.'

Common sense has prevailed methinks.
