Barcelona Rival Manchester City for Midfielder

Barcelona Rival Manchester City for Midfielder

Newspaper speculation has Barcelona going head-to-head with their former manager, Pep Guardiola, for the services of a highly-rated midfielder.

According to the news source, the Daily Mail, picking up on speculation started by the news vehicle Diario AS, both Ernesto Valverde and Guardiola have identified Julian Weigl as a viable acquisition.

Weigl, just 22-years-of-age, is currently on the books of the Bundesliga club, Borussia Dortmund, having returned to first team action after four months out with a broken ankle.

According to our referenced sources, Weigl is seen by Valverde as the 'new` Sergio Busquets, a player who will provide defensive cover on front of the defence.

Weigl only put pen-to-paper on a contract extension recently, a deal that ties him to Borussia Dortmund until 2021, but there is speculation that he would be open to a move.

If a deal does materialise, it remains to be seen whether Weigl would prefer the delights of Barcelona or life with Guardiola in Manchester.

Here at Vital Barcelona, we`ll keep an eye open for any further developments.
