Barca issue Statement on Behind-Closed-Doors Game

Barca issue Statement on Behind-Closed-Doors Game

The last 24 hours have seen political unrest in the city of Barcelona.

The vote for Catalunya Independence has seen violence break out in many parts of the city as the Spanish government tries to clamp down on what it views as an illegal vote.

As a consequence, Barcelona originally opted to postpone the game but were forced to reconsider when it was announced that the league refused to accept the decision, thereby forcing Barcelona to issue an official statement that read,

'FC Barcelona condemns the events which have taken place in many parts of Catalonia today in order to prevent its citizens exercising their democratic right to free expression.

'Given the exceptional nature of events, the board of directors have decided that the FC Barcelona first team game against Las Palmas will be played behind closed doors following the Professional Football League's refusal to postponed the game.'

The decision means the game goes ahead in an empty stadium with thousands outside the Camp Nou obviously disappointed at the outcome and being pushed away by the police called to the area.
