Barcelona v Las Palmas Preview

Barcelona v Las Palmas Preview

This afternoon, at the Camp Nou, Barcelona welcome Las Palmas for a La Liga fixture.

Ernesto Valverde will be hoping his side can maintain their great start to the season which sees the side with maximum points and a four-point lead at the top of La Liga table.

However, Las Palmas arrive at the Camp Nou having changed their manager in midweek.

After losing their last two matches, against Sevilla and Leganes, the club axed Manol Marquez and appointed Pako Avestaran, who has previously managed Valencia.

Las Palmas currently sit in 17th position in La Liga but it would appear that Avestaran will be bringing his side to the Camp Nou to attack rather than defend, remarking,

'We have to have the ball, but we know we're going to suffer and we have to be solid.

'Against Barcelona we cannot only go out to defend, we have to fight for the ball even though we know there will be times when we will be under the cosh.

"We're going to try and be proactive and not respond depending on what our opponents do. We're going to try and ensure this team get results by having possession of the ball.

'This team cannot get results based only on closing up shop, we don't have that type of player.'

Las Palmas are also hampered by the fact they have a squad hit by injuries with Vitolo, Sergi Samper, Loic Remy and the former Barcelona youngster Alen Halilovic among those missing.

Kick-off is 15:15 BST with the game, broadcast live on Sky Sports.
