Girona 0 Barcelona 3

Girona 0 Barcelona 3

Barcelona maintain their 100% record in La Liga.

Apologies for the lack of site action over the weekend, but I`ve been on a break and then managed to pick up a stomach bug, but such is life!

However, getting back to the Catalan derby, Barcelona continued to impress against Girona, making it six wins out of six and a maximum eighteen points out of eighteen available.

But, perhaps in winning, the big surprise was that Barcelona scored three times but Lionel Messi didn`t score any of them.

In fact, the first two goals were own goals courtesy of Aday Benitez and Gorka Iraizoz.

The first of those came when Benitez deflected a shot from Jordi Alba into his own net whilst the second saw the Girona keeper, Iraizoz, turn a cross from Aleix Vidal into his own net.

The third and final goal though did come from the boot of a Barcelona player with Luis Suarez latching on to a long ball from Sergi Roberto and smashing the ball past Iraizoz in the Girona goal.

There`ll be harder tests than this for Barcelona in La Liga as they seek to regain the title.

With a trip to take on Sporting Lisbon, in the Champions League on Wednesday night, it was interesting to see Ernesto Valverde rotate his squad and still get the desired result.

Onwards and upwards.
