Barcelona v Real Madrid - Super Cup 1st leg Preview

Barcelona v Real Madrid - Super Cup 1st leg Preview

After a series of friendly fixtures, Barcelona get back into competitive action this Sunday evening when they face Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup first leg.

The first leg, hosted by Barcelona at the Camp Nou, will see Barcelona looking to establish a lead for the second leg.

However, the fixture will be the first major game Barcelona will have played without Neymar Jnr at the club. Neymar is now history having opted to move to Paris Saint-Germain.

But although it would appear Barcelona are taking on their main rivals with a weakened squad, it should be remembered that Neymar wasn`t playing the last time these two sides met in competitive action when Barcelona won a five-goal thriller, with the last kick of the game, back in April, courtesy of a goal from Lionel Messi.

Barcelona also know that the last time the two sides met they also emerged victorious, when, once again they edged a five-goal thriller, beating Real Madrid 3-2 in Miami on the US Tour.

Real Madrid enter the game having recently won the European Super Cup, in Macedonia, when they beat Manchester United 2-1, previous to that result they had failed to win any of their pre-season friendlies.

Ernesto Valverde, ahead of the first leg, had this to say to the media,

"We've had a good pre-season and we are coming into the game in good condition."

Anyone care to predict a first leg score?

I`m going for a 2-1 win to Barcelona.
