Barcelona have confirmed that Jeremy Mathieu has left the Camp Nou.

The 33-year-old centre back has joined the Portuguese club, Sporting Lisbon on a two-year deal after the club terminated his contract.

The Frenchman spent three seasons with Barcelona during which he made 91 appearances scoring 4 goals.

Signed by Luis Enrique, in a deal worth £19 million from Valencia, Mathieu was part of a squad that won:

• La Liga - twice
• Copa del Rey - thrice
• Champions League - once
• World Club Championship - once
• European Super Cup - once
• Spanish Super Cup - once

Commenting on the transfer, Barcelona have issued a simple statement that reads,

FC Barcelona wishes the player the best of luck and success in his next professional step.

Here at Vital Barcelona we`d like to echo those sentiments.
