Barcelona on the wrong path

Barcelona on the wrong path

Prior to the UEFA Champions League second leg with Juventus, Barcelona head coach Luis Enrique called for his side to score five to get through to the next stage.

Barcelona had returned from Italy three goals behind.

But with the knowledge that they came from four goals behind against Paris Saint-Germain, they strongly believed that anything was possible.

Well almost, even though Enrique backed his side to advance, he didn't back them to keep a clean sheet and called for Barcelona to score five past a side that had only conceded twice prior to the game in the competition.

'bearing in mind that the opponent will score, our goal will be to get five. But If we score the first goal, the Camp Nou will help with the second and then the third will fall into place'. Enrique told Spanish newspaper Marca before kick off.

Well Enrique was wrong, the opponent did not score, Barcelona kept a clean sheet.

But where the defence for once held up their side, the trident of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar drew a blank.

In 90 minutes where the message was all-out-attack and go and get five goals, Barcelona mustered just one shot on target.

'We tried with all our might, but we couldn't find the route to goal. We played a very poor first half in Turin and that has cost us dearly.' Enrique told reporters as quoted by Sky Sports after the game.

'We needed to be more calm and more lucid. We tried to do everything, We had a lot of shots on goal but only had one on target. We had a great attitude and made a huge effort so it's a shame,

'We leave this game feeling sad but we can't blame anyone. We tried everything until the end and kept fighting to create chances but none of them went in.

'I'm annoyed we couldn't win the game because we tried with all our strength but we couldn't find the path to their goal.'
